No matter how much we learn about love scientifically/ biochemically, it will always capture our curiosities and leave us amazed and amused by its mysteries.
When we say love, I feel that too often it’s been narrowed to romantic love.
Yes, I agree that’s a big part of our lives and the wider community but it’s one part and it shouldn’t take over the many aspects of love that are different but also important.
For example, the love between parent and child, siblings, other relatives, friends, love for morals, faith, studying…serving others, and above all the love of God.
Love is a beautiful emotion that brings us together, connects us for life.
And, it’s not limited to romantic love. Rather that is one form of love, and it’s important but not an end in itself.
I believe it’s a means.
A blessing to enjoy in this life and be grateful for. But above all is my love and connection to God, with who’s the permission I cherish everything/ everyone else.
With that in mind, here are a few truths about love that I have come to know and lived.
- To love is to respect.
- To love is to be merciful and kind.
- Love is a practice.
- Love is forgiving.
- Pure unblemished love is only for Allah (God).
- Love doesn’t harm the beloved.
- True love seeks to please the beloved.
- Love is healing.
- True love knows its limits.
- Where there’s love there is no abuse.
- Love accepts human imperfections.
- Love brings you closer to happiness.
- A lasting love only comes with God’s approval.
- Actions can be wrong, love can’t.
- Love is productive.
- Love for Allah is above love for everything else.
