Looking for something to soothe your period pains, something yummy….maybe even healthy??
(I understand it can be hard to think about being healthy whilst being in so much pain and discomfort).
Unfortunately, many of us experience pain, cramps, and overall discomfort.
I’ve never had a period without it being painful, sometimes less and sometimes more; but always uncomfortable.
With all that’s out there promising to give relief to period pains, nothing has actually taken away the pain for good. However, there are some methods that have soothed menstrual cramps, such as hot drinks!
What really helps me to bear the pain without taking painkillers or other drugs, is to prevent making it worse before it happens through eating well and reducing caffeine etc, and then prioritizing soothing the pain rather than tolerating it(especially in the first 3 days).
Here are 3 warm drinks that are not just delicious but also good for your cramps and health!
1- Turmeric Latte
- 2 cups of milk ( use almond milk for nondairy option)
- ½ tablespoon turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or just cinnamon stick as you like
- ½ teaspoon vanilla ( optional)
Bring to boil for about 3 mins and enjoy!
2- Rooibos Tea
This is a favorite of mine as it’s a herbal alternative to black tea, so it’s caffeine-free but still feels like tea! Great for dipping too…yummm…
Its made like normal English tea, milk can be added!
Add cinammon stick for its anti-inflammatory properties to help soothe cramps.
To be honest, you can add anything that makes it soothing for you, for example, ginger, bay leaves, saffron… treat it as you would black tea.
3- Black Tea
I only allow myself one cup of black tea when I can’t resist myself or I feel it’s the only thing that will bring some comfort.
In addition to that, adding whole spices as mentioned above will always be a good thing and more delicious.
Also to keep in mind to drink more water when we’ve had tea or coffee or lots of caffeine from other sources( fizzy drinks, chocolate…), this will help bring the body to balance especially during periods.
For me, it’s all about prioritizing soothing and feeling relaxed. This is more important as I have committed to going through periods naturally( without taking painkillers) so it’s better I have a cup of tea, it’s better than painkillers and depending on them.
This is not to vilify painkillers, rather it’s because I understand they’re powerful and effective and so I don’t want to resort to them for menstrual cramps which will come and go every month. And thankfully, the natural methods have worked and I haven’t taken them for period pain since my mid-teens.
For me this has been a solution, I hope you will find some solution that will work for you too.
I hope you will try these drinks, sit back, get warm and enjoy!
